Photo Packaging Starter Kits — Try Branded Packaging with Free Imprinting
If you've been thinking about upgrading to professional branded packaging but don't want to commit to a full production order, Tyndell's starter kits let you try it with minimal investment. Each kit includes a mix of product sizes, a 1x3 studio die, and free imprinting of your studio logo — everything you need to start delivering branded packaging to your clients right away. Starter kits are limited to one per customer per product type, so they're designed specifically as a low-risk way to experience the quality before you scale up.
We offer starter kits across three of our most popular product lines. Portrait box starter kits come with 37 boxes in three sizes (11x14, 8x10, and 5x7) and are available in six colors — Black, Chocolate, Kraft, Matte Black, Slate, and White. You can add a roll of satin ribbon for $10 or upgrade from the included 1x3 die to a larger 2x3 studio die for $18. Photo case starter kits include 50 cases in three sizes (11x14, 8x10, and 5x7) with a bundle of 19" stribbons included, and are available in five colors — Black, Chocolate, Kraft, Slate, and White. Frame bag starter kits come with 25 bags across five sizes (20x16 through 46x36) with screen setup and screen printing included, available in Black, Chocolate, Slate, and White.
Every starter kit ships with your logo imprinted at no additional charge. The included studio die is yours to keep and will be used on all future orders, so your investment carries forward when you're ready to order in larger quantities. Whether you're a new photographer building your brand or an established studio exploring a new packaging style, starter kits give you a hands-on way to see how Tyndell packaging looks and feels with your branding on it.
Why Photographers Start with Tyndell Starter Kits
Tyndell has been supplying professional photographers with custom packaging since 1974. Our starter kits were created because we know that committing to branded packaging is a big step — especially if you've never used it before. By bundling product, accessories, a die, and imprinting into a single kit, we've removed the barriers so you can experience the full branded packaging workflow at a fraction of the cost of a standard production order. Once you've tried it, we're confident you'll see the difference it makes for your clients — and your business. We ship from Livonia, Michigan, and our team is here to help you choose the right kit to get started.
Frequently Asked Questions About Starter Kits
I'm new to professional photo packaging — how do I get started? Tyndell's starter kits are designed exactly for this. Each kit bundles together a mix of product sizes, a custom studio die made from your logo, and free imprinting — so you don't have to figure out what to order separately or worry about setup costs. Choose a box starter kit if you want a premium rigid box presentation, a photo case starter kit if you want something lighter and easier to ship, or a frame bag starter kit if you deliver large framed prints or canvases. Every kit is limited to one per customer per product type, keeping the cost low while giving you enough product to test with real clients.
I'm not sure what sizes I need — does the starter kit help with that? Yes — that's one of the main advantages of a starter kit. Each box and photo case kit includes a mix of the three most common portrait sizes (5x7, 8x10, and 11x14), so you can test all of them with real orders and see which sizes your clients actually need before committing to larger quantities of any one size. Frame bag starter kits work the same way, including five bags in each of five sizes (20x16 through 46x36) to cover everything from small framed prints to large canvases. Once you've used the kit, you'll know exactly what to reorder.
What is a studio die and why is it included? A studio die is a custom metal plate made from your logo artwork that's used to foil-imprint your branding onto packaging. Creating the die is typically the biggest upfront cost of branded packaging. By including a 1x3 studio die free with every starter kit, Tyndell eliminates that barrier. The die is yours to keep — once you're ready to reorder, your die is on file and ready to use on all future orders at no additional die charge.
What's the difference between a box starter kit and a photo case starter kit? Portrait boxes are rigid, structured boxes with a lift-off lid — they're a premium presentation product. Photo cases are a lighter-weight, flat alternative that takes up less storage space and costs less to ship. The box starter kit includes 37 boxes starting at $146.35, while the photo case starter kit includes 50 cases starting at $117.27. Both include a die and free imprinting. The choice depends on whether you want maximum presentation impact (boxes) or a more practical, cost-efficient option (photo cases).
Can I only order one starter kit? Yes — starter kits are limited to one per customer per product type. This means you can order one box starter kit, one photo case starter kit, and one frame bag starter kit, but not two of the same type. The limit exists because starter kits are priced as an introductory offer to let you experience the product. Once you've tried it, you can order regular production quantities at standard pricing with your die already on file.
